Relationship with God Through Jesus Christ

Knowing God Personally

What Does It Mean to Have a Relationship with God?

Christianity is not merely a religion, a set of rules, or an agreement with certain beliefs.

At its heart, Christianity is a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

God created us not only to exist, but to know Him, love Him, trust Him, and walk with Him. From the beginning, God's desire has been to dwell with His people and have fellowship with them.

The Bible teaches that we were made for relationship with God.

John 17:3

“And this is eternal life, that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”

Eternal life is not only living forever.
It is knowing God personally.

Why Do We Need Jesus?

Sin separates us from God.

Although God created us for relationship with Him, humanity has turned away from Him. We often seek our own way rather than God's way.

Romans 3:23

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Because God is holy and righteous, sin creates a barrier between us and Him.

But God did not leave us separated.

Romans 5:8

“But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Jesus Christ came into the world to reconcile us to God.

Through His death and resurrection, He made a way for sinners to be forgiven and restored into relationship with their Creator.

Jesus Is the Way to the Father

Jesus did not simply teach about God.

He revealed God.

John 14:6

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

Through Jesus:

  • We learn who God is.
  • We receive forgiveness.
  • We become children of God.
  • We gain access to the Father.

A relationship with God is possible because of Jesus Christ.

Faith Is More Than Belief

Many people believe that God exists.

Biblical faith goes further.

Faith is trusting Jesus Christ and placing our lives in His hands.

John 1:12

“But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.”

Faith is not simply knowing facts about Jesus.

Faith is receiving Him, trusting Him, and following Him.

Faith begins with belief—but grows into relationship.

God Loves You Personally

God's love is not distant or impersonal.

Jesus taught that the Father knows and cares for His children.

John 16:27

“For the Father Himself loves you.”

God knows:

  • Your struggles
  • Your fears
  • Your weaknesses
  • Your needs
  • Your hopes

You are not forgotten.

The God who created the universe knows you and invites you to come to Him.

Relationship Grows Through Prayer

Prayer is one of the greatest privileges of the Christian life.

Prayer is speaking with God honestly, sincerely, and personally.

Matthew 6:6

“Pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”

Prayer is not merely reciting words.

It is bringing your heart before God:

  • Your gratitude
  • Your worries
  • Your questions
  • Your joys
  • Your burdens

God invites His children to speak with Him.

Relationship Grows Through God's Word

Just as conversation strengthens human relationships, God's Word strengthens our relationship with Him.

Romans 10:17

“Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”

When we read Scripture:

  • We learn God's character.
  • We understand His promises.
  • We hear Christ's words.
  • Our faith grows stronger.

The Bible is not merely information about God.

It is God's revelation of Himself to us.

The Holy Spirit Helps Us

God does not leave believers alone.

Jesus promised the Holy Spirit to guide, teach, and comfort His people.

John 16:13

“When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth.”

The Holy Spirit:

  • Helps us understand Scripture.
  • Convicts us of sin.
  • Strengthens our faith.
  • Produces spiritual growth.
  • Points us to Jesus.

The Christian life is not lived by human strength alone.

God Himself works within His people.

Walking with God Every Day

A relationship with God is not limited to church services or special moments.

It is a daily walk.

Proverbs 3:5–6

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.”

Walking with God means:

  • Trusting Him in uncertainty
  • Obeying His Word
  • Seeking Him in prayer
  • Depending on His grace
  • Following Jesus day by day

Like every relationship, it grows through time, trust, and fellowship.

The Hope of Relationship with God

Life can be difficult.

There are struggles, disappointments, losses, and seasons when the future seems uncertain.

Yet Christians have hope because God is with them.

Matthew 28:20

“I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

God does not promise a life without difficulties.

He promises His presence through them.

The greatest gift of the gospel is not merely forgiveness, blessings, or even eternal life.

The greatest gift is God Himself.

In One Sentence

A relationship with God through Jesus Christ is knowing, trusting, loving, and walking with the God who first loved us and made a way for us to come to Him through His Son.

A Short Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for loving me and sending Jesus Christ to save me. Help me to know You more, trust You more, and walk with You each day. Teach me through Your Word, guide me by Your Spirit, and strengthen my faith in Jesus Christ.

In the name of Jesus,

Amen.
