John 17:11

“I will remain in the world no longer…”
Jesus is preparing for His departure (through the cross and return to the Father).
He knows His earthly mission is coming to completion.

“…but they are still in the world…”
The disciples will continue living in a difficult, broken world.
They will face challenges, opposition, and spiritual struggle.

“…and I am coming to you.”
Jesus expresses His return to the Father.
This shows His divine origin and relationship with God.

“Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name…”
Jesus asks God to guard His followers.
“Your name” represents God’s authority, character, and presence.

“…the name you gave me…”
Jesus carries God’s authority and identity.
This shows unity between Jesus and the Father.

“…so that they may be one as we are one.”
The purpose of protection is unity.
Believers are called to reflect the same deep unity seen in God.

John 17:22

“I have given them the glory that you gave me…”
Jesus shares His glory with believers.
This “glory” means His presence, truth, and divine life—not just honor.

“…that they may be one as we are one.”
Again, the goal is unity.
Unity is not just agreement—it is spiritual connection.

John 17:23

“I in them and you in me…”
A picture of deep spiritual indwelling.
Jesus lives in believers, and the Father lives in Jesus.

“…so that they may be brought to complete unity.”
Unity is meant to grow into perfection (maturity).
Not partial—but full, complete oneness.

“Then the world will know that you sent me…”
Unity becomes a testimony to the world.
It is evidence that Jesus truly comes from God.

“…and have loved them even as you have loved me.”
This is one of the most powerful truths:
God loves believers with the same kind of love He has for Jesus.

John 17:11, 22–23

Protection, Unity, and God’s Love

Jesus prays that His followers will be protected by God, united as one, and filled with the love that comes from the Father.

John 17:11

Jesus is preparing to return to the Father, but His disciples will remain in the world. So Jesus asks the Father to protect them by His holy name.

Meaning:
God’s protection is not only for safety, but also for unity.

Simple Reflection:
God keeps His people close to Him so they can stay united in faith, love, and purpose.

John 17:22

Jesus says He has given His followers the glory the Father gave Him, so they may be one.

Meaning:
The glory Jesus gives is His presence, truth, grace, and spiritual life.

Simple Reflection:
Unity among believers comes from sharing life with Christ.

John 17:23

Jesus says, “I in them and you in me,” showing a deep relationship between God, Jesus, and believers.

Meaning:
Believers are called into complete unity through Christ.

Simple Reflection:
When believers love one another and live in unity, the world can see that Jesus was sent by God.
