The Lord’s Prayer

“Our Father in heaven”

Jesus Christ teaches believers to approach God personally as a loving Father.
“Our” also reminds us that faith is not only individual, but shared with others.

“Hallowed be your name”

“Hallowed” means holy, honored, and revered.
This line expresses worship and respect for God’s name and character.

“Your kingdom come”

A prayer for God’s rule, truth, peace, and salvation to spread throughout the world and in our hearts.

“Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven”

This means trusting God’s wisdom above our own desires and asking for His perfect will to happen in our lives.

“Give us today our daily bread”

A request for daily needs—food, strength, wisdom, provision, and care.
It teaches dependence on God day by day.

“And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors”

We ask God for forgiveness for our sins, while also choosing to forgive others.
It reflects grace, mercy, and reconciliation.

“And lead us not into temptation”

A prayer for spiritual guidance and strength to avoid sin and harmful paths.

“But deliver us from evil”

Asking God for protection from evil, darkness, temptation, and spiritual harm.

“For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”

A declaration that all authority, power, and glory belong to God eternally.
“Amen” means “truly,” “so be it,” or “let it be fulfilled.”
